3D Printed Traditional Boat Shuttle

This is a traditional boat shuttle design used by Rio Grande weavers for generations. The sticks are Apache Plume, which is a plant local to the area. The wood is known for being flexible for long periods of time. Originally, these shuttles were hand-carved by weavers in the area, and this design is no different; this shuttle is one specifically designed by Jake O. Trujillo, 3D printed so they can be enjoyed and used by many.

After moving from New York City to San Francisco in the 1970s, I decided that I wanted to learn to weave. I knew nothing about weaving, but soon found a wonderful teacher, Kay Sekimachi. My mother made clothing, so textiles had always been a [art of my life — and I love fashion.
