A Northern New Mexico, Hispanic, Folk Art, Fiber Art, Weaving, Tapestry GalleryNorthern New MexicoLocated in Chimayo, New Mexico on the "High Road to Toas". We are about 45 minutes from Santa Fe, and about an hour and a half to Taos. See our map.HispanicMost of our weavers are Hispanic and all of them learned and draw from the art of Rio Grande Weaving, a tradition developed over four centuries of Spanish settlement in Northern New Mexico. Folk ArtHistorically produced for trade and for home use, Rio Grande blankets were woven by people of all ages and abilities. Fiber ArtWe weave with wool, some of it handspun, lots of it natural dyed. We also sell clothing of other fibers as well.WeavingWe don't sell anything but weavings and books about weaving. TapestryThe large majority of our weavings use tapestry. GalleryWe are a unique combination of a cottage industry and an art gallery, displaying the works of several artists/weavers, and trying to encourage the highest quality and creativity. Weavers have different business relationships with the shop, some are contracted, some are represented on a consignment basis. |
